Are You a Wise Person? (These 8 things will tell you) | James 3:18

Are You a Wise Person? (These 8 things will tell you) | James 3:18

James Chapter 3 tells us 8 qualities of someone who lives his/her life following God's Wisdom.

We've been digging deeper and learning more about each of these godly wisdom traits this past week. You can find the link to those Bible podcasts below👇🏼.

Today, we recap what we've learned. And end our study of James chapter 3 by exploring James 3:18 (which still has scholars scratching their heads) 🤷‍♀️

God Commands You to Ask for Wisdom

Asking for Wisdom Comes With This ONE Condition

How Do We Get Wisdom from God?
God's Wisdom is Peaceable
God's Wisdom is Considerate and Submissive
God's Wisdom is Full of Mercy and Good Fruit
God's Wisdom is Impartial and Sincere

Hey, welcome to the Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.

Today, we are ending our study of James Chapter 3. We’ve been exploring the differences between Godly wisdom and Earthly wisdom.

So, to recap, James says you’ll know a wise person by these 8 fruits in their life:

  1. A wise person comes to God with pure motives seeking God’s wisdom, not man’s wisdom
  2. A wise person is peaceable. You don’t look to stir up trouble.
  3. A wise person is considerate. You respect other people’s feelings.
  4. A wise person is willing to yield. You’re willing to learn, be corrected, and respond to godly leadership.
  5. A wise person is full of mercy AND
  6. Good fruits. You’re ready to help those in need.
  7.  A wise person is impartial. You show no favoritism.
  8. A wise person is sincere. You don’t pretend to be someone you are not.

Which brings us to James 3:18 which says, “Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”

What’s this mean? I’m not exactly certain. Lol.

I have researched as much as time would permit, and the conclusion I’ve made is that no one else knows for sure either.

So, for what it’s worth, here’s what I think it means when I put this verse into context:

As you allow these 8 godly qualities to flow through your life, you’re like a farmer planting seeds of peace wherever you go. And as you do, the harvest that you reap is a community of believers who live together in harmony and peace instead of a community of believers who live in selfish ambition and evil bitterness.

So, your simple truth for today: As a wise man, you inhabit these 8 qualities that naturally flow through you and out to others. Everywhere you go you are planting seeds of peace. And that makes you, my friend, a Peacemaker. And Jesus said in Matthew 5:9, blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.
