Throughout the past two weeks, we have been exploring the first chapter of James. James teaches us that God sends us trials to spiritually mature us. In James 1:5 God commands us to ask Him for wisdom and He will give it to us generously no matter our past failures.

So, what’s the secret to receiving this wisdom God tells us to ask for in the midst of these trials?

James 1:21 tells us, “Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

In other words, humble ourselves and realize that we needs God’s help to endure these trials. The ultimate source for God’s help is His Word, The Bible. If you are willing to understand the power of God’s Word, you can study any portion of the Bible, and God can speak to you through His living, Rhema Word.

James 1:21 gives us two steps to receiving God’s Wisdom. First, we must get rid of all moral filth. The picture here is of someone stripping off filthy clothes and having no desire to ever wear them again. That’s the first step. Secondly, James says that we are to humbly accept God’s word that has already been planted in us.

The Spirit of God, the One who will lead you into Godly counsel, is already inside of you as a Christian believer. He’s just waiting for you to be quick to listen as He guides you, as we learned yesterday.

And finally, James says that we are to humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Now, in this particular verse we are not talking about spiritual salvation. While the Word can save us, the recipients of this letter had already received salvation. God’s Word, when allowed to continue to grow inside of you, will continue to spiritually mature you and prepare you for the good works God has for you.

And that’s The Simple Truth.
