Hey, welcome to The Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.

Yesterday, Paul revealed his calling that came directly from God and that was to teach the fullness of God’s message. And what is that message? Paul explains here Colossians 1:26, “the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations but is now disclosed to the Lord's people.”

False teachers creeping into the church at Colossae taught that the Gnostics knew mysteries that only a few select people were chosen to know. Paul says, “Yes, there actually was a mystery but it’s no longer a secret. God has revealed the mystery to those who follow Jesus.”

The word “mystery” in this context means any truth that was revealed in the Old Testament, but God kept the meaning of it hidden until a later date. The Jews knew that Gentiles, non-Jews, would know God one day.  That wasn’t a mystery. It was revealed to Abraham. They just didn’t understand the fullness of that mystery until after the resurrection.

Paul continues in Verse 27 from the New Living Translation, “For God wanted them (the Lord’s people) to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too.”

So, Paul says everything that the Jewish nation had from God now belongs to the Gentiles too. Now, to us, this doesn’t seem like a big deal. But to them, this was enormous. The Jewish people always saw themselves as superior.

Paul’s revealing here that Jews and Gentiles are ONE.  The Gentiles are joint heirs in salvation on the same level as Jews. We all share in the same privileges.

And Paul continues in verse 27 with, “And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.” The NIV says “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

In the Old Testament, God chose to dwell among the Israelites.  The Holy Spirit would only come upon a few chosen individuals empowering them to accomplish God’s will. However, no one ever imagined that Christ would dwell within every. single. believer. personally. especially the Gentiles. What an incredible mystery revealed.

So, your Simple Truth for today: As a born-again believer, Jesus Christ lives fully within you. This is your hope of glory. This is a promise to you of a glorious future that God has prepared for you.
