Hey, welcome to The Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.

In James 3:17 we discover the characteristics of God’s wisdom.  James Chapter 3 tells us that we must seek God’s wisdom with pure motives and a pure heart. It’s from this inner state of purity that 7 outward manifestations, or fruit, occur. Today we’re looking at Godly wisdom that is peaceable.

James 3:17 tells us in the NIV “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

So, when you ask God for wisdom with pure motives, the first fruit that occurs outwardly in your life is peace-loving. The very definition of peace-loving means that you try to avoid quarreling or fighting with other people. When you live a life of peace, you don’t go around looking for ways to stir up trouble. You don’t carry a sense of bitterness or selfish ambition that desires to be better than everyone.

This peace brings what the Hebrews called “shalom.” Shalom is more than just the absence of conflict. Shalom seeks to bring goodness to society. This kind of peace brings harmony with those around you. It seeks to bring wholeness, completeness, soundness. It desires to bring men closer together and closer to God. Jesus’ life is the very essence of shalom.

In Romans 12:18, Paul says, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Hebrews 12:14, says to “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy.”

Living at peace means putting away our egos, our prejudices, our own desires. However, notice Hebrews 12:14 said to be holy. In other words, do all you can to maintain peace with others without sacrificing purity.

Your simple truth for today: As a wise, peace-loving person, you put a high value on bringing people together to live in harmony with one another and with God.
