Hey, welcome to The Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.

Today we are digging deeper into Colossians 1:28 where Paul makes his mission clear. He writes, “He (Christ) is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.

Paul says Christ alone is what he proclaims. It is only in Him we find salvation. It’s only in Him we find hope. And Paul says his goal in doing this is to present everyone fully mature in Christ.

How does this happen? Paul gives 3 ways.

  1. Proclaim Christ. In other words, publicly declare plainly and openly Jesus Christ.
  2. Admonish believers. In Greek, this is more than just warning or correcting us. Instead, this gives the idea of discipling someone. Coming alongside someone and encouraging them. It’s the picture of pouring your life into someone else’s.
  3. Teaching God’s Word

And Paul makes it clear that this is to happen for everyone. In fact, in the original language, Paul uses the word “everyone” three times in this one verse.

He says, “We admonish everyone. We teach everyone. And we present everyone perfect in Christ.”

Meaning that this wisdom about Christ isn’t just for the so-called privileged inner circle like the Gnostics and it’s not just for the Jews. It is a free gift available to everyone.

And the result when you do these three things is maturity in Christ. This is the goal. That each day you become more and more like Christ so that one day on Christ’s return you will be presented fully mature in Christ.

So, your Simple Truth for today: Paul’s goal in ministry is to develop spiritually mature believers. What about you? What is your goal? Just like Paul, God calls you to come alongside your brothers and sisters in Christ, encouraging them, teaching them, pouring into them the Love of Christ, so that they, too, become spiritually mature as they develop into the very likeness of Christ.
