How to Pray a Transformational Prayer - Part 2 | Colossians 1:10

How to Pray a Transformational Prayer - Part 2 | Colossians 1:10

Colossians 1:9-10a (NIV) For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way

We've been looking at Paul's powerful prayer that he prayed for the believers in Colossae.

In the past 2 episodes, we learned to pray, "God, show me YOUR will (not mine). Teach me how to apply it to my life."

Today, we explore the 2nd request that Paul makes in his prayer: God, help me live a life worthy of you, and please you in every way.

The phrase  "live a life" in the original Greek language gives us great insight in how to apply this prayer in our lives.

We will also look at what the Holy Spirit's job in this process and what is our job?

Hey, welcome to The Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.

We’ve been exploring Paul’s powerful prayer for the believers in Colossae found in Colossians chapter one.

In the past two podcasts, we’ve looked at the first thing Paul prays for and that is spiritual understanding. The truth is that when you study your Bible, and you allow the Holy Spirit to get involved, your life will change.

So, first, we’re praying for spiritual understanding. And why do we need spiritual understanding? Colossians chapter one verse ten says, “so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way.”

In the original Greek language, the phrase “live a life” was the word “walk.” It was an Old Testament way of saying “conduct.” Walking was living out what you learned from God. Meaning it’s not enough to just know God’s will for you, you need to walk it out in your life.

When you learn straight from the Holy Spirit, your life should start to change. You should see transformation happening. You find that you desire to please God and live a life that honors Him. You find that your conversations, the things you think about, the way you conduct yourself, is consistent with who Christ is. Each day you find that you become more and more like Christ.

Note that this has nothing to do with trying harder. It’s not about you making yourself a set of dos and don’ts. Supernaturally, your life changes when you seek God’s will.

It’s an incredible process. But, it’s not your job to make this happen. It’s the Holy Spirit’s. Your job is to just make yourself available to the Holy Spirit, always listening and looking as He reveals God’s will to you. This happens supernaturally within you. Powerful transformation takes place within your spirit.

So, your simple Truth for today: We’ve learned two things so far to pray. First, Lord, help me know your will and give me an understanding on how to apply it to my life. And second, help me live a life worthy of you and please you in every way.

In fact, can I pray this over you right now? God, teach my friend here what your will is for them and give them the understanding to apply it to their life. God, help them live a life worthy of you and pleasing you in every way.

Now, pray these 2 things over your kids, grandkids, friends. And join again tomorrow as we explore the third thing Paul prays for. You won’t want to miss it because it has a critical point you need to know IF you want to bear good fruit.

Have a blessed day. I’ll see you tomorrow.
