Colossians 1:11 (NIV) For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work
Paul gives us a Christ-centered prayer in Colossians chapter one.
So far, we've learned to pray:
Today, we learn the third thing that we are to ask God for.

Hey, welcome to The Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.
We’ve been learning how to pray a Christ-centered prayer that Paul models for us in Colossians chapter 1. I encourage you to listen to the past 3 episodes if you’ve missed them, because what you learn can truly change how you pray.
So, Paul has taught us to ask or pray for two things so far:
God, what do YOU want me to do and give me spiritual understanding on how to apply it to my life AND
God, help me live a life worthy of you and please you in every way (and in the original Greek language that phrase means to please only one person so Paul is praying that your life is lived to please God, not your spouse or your kids or friends.)
Continuing on today in Colossians chapter one starting in the second half of verse 10, you pray for fruitful work. Paul prays, “live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work”
When you live a life worthy of the Lord, or you could even say, when you walk out God’s will that He reveals to you, you produce fruitful work in your life. Now, please don’t get this confused with the idea that you must “do” things to earn your salvation. That’s far from what Paul is saying here. What Paul is saying is this, which is found in Ephesians 2:10, that you are God’s masterpiece created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God has provided in advance for us to do.
So, this is very, very important so come back to me if you’re doing something else. God tells you what to do when you ask Him, and when you go do His will, when you walk it out or live the life worthy of the Lord, you bear good fruit. God has already prepared good works for you to do. But the important thing to remember here is that God did it. It doesn’t say that you prepare good works. It’s not like, “God, I’m going to do something great for you. I’m going to do this and I’m going to do that.” And it may look like really great things, the only problem is that God didn’t tell you to do it. You decided on your own.
Your job is to simply to tap into God’s plan by asking, “Holy Spirit, what do you want me to do?” And then the Holy Spirit prompts you through your spirit, you do what he says, you live it out, and that produces fruit in your life.
So, your simple Truth for today: We’ve learned 3 things to pray so far. God, show me your will and how to apply it. God, help me live a life worthy of you, pleasing you in all I do. AND God, help my work be fruitful. Again, show me your will, help me walk it out, and help it to be fruitful. That is a Bible based prayer. I encourage you to memorize what we’ve learned so far, and walk it out in your life today. And watch the Holy Spirit transform your life.
Hey have a blessed weekend. And I’ll see you soon.
