JULIE 0:05

Hey! Welcome to The Simple Truth Bible Study Podcast. I’m Julie Carruth. Do you ever find like giving up when your trials seem to go on forever? During our study of James, we’ve discovered that God will test you with various kinds of trials. You might find these trials hard to endure but

check this out, in James 1:12 in the NIV says, “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love him.”

Now I don’t know about you but enduring through trials or temptations isn’t the most pleasing part of life. But this verse tells us that we shouldn’t see these trials as useless or pointless. These trials test our beliefs about God and mark us as someone who loves God.

It says that at the end of our life we will receive the crown of life. Now, I have to admit, this is where the simple Truth isn’t so simple for me. There are 5 crowns mentioned in the Bible that we will receive in heaven, and one of these crowns is the Crown of Life. This crown is given to those who persevere through temptation while on earth.

Scholars believe that the picture James is painting for us here is of a wreath worn upon an Olympic athlete’s head when he’d win a race in the ancient Greek games. This athlete refused to give up no matter how tempted he was to quit.

James applies the same idea to you. As a believer, you must commit to persevere through trials and not quit. So that when you finish the race set before you in this life, you will receive the crown of life. What that means, I’m not exactly sure, but when I get there, I’ll let you know!

But what I do know for sure is that this verse tells us God will bless you as a result of enduring trials. And that’s The Simple Truth.
