Hey, welcome to The Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.

In the book of Colossians, the Apostle Paul writes a letter to a somewhat new church in the city of Colossae. Unfortunately, false teachers were creeping into the church targeting new believers there causing them to doubt what was true.

So, Epaphras, the man who planted that church sets out for Rome asking Paul for help.

Paul’s concern and love for these young believers is clearly felt as we read his prayer of thanksgiving beginning in Colossians chapter one verses 3-5, “We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people—the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven.”

Faith. Love. Hope. Paul knows that every Christian needs these 3 foundational pillars to live a fruitful and rewarding life in Christ. Your Christian life began with faith. You heard the gospel message, you believed it, and with faith you gave your life to Christ. And with faith, you continue believing in him.

From faith flows love. Love for God AND love for other believers. The original Greek word here for love is Agape. This is a selfless, unconditional love. It says that no matter what you do to me, no matter what it costs me, I will love you and selflessly serve you.

And why do we do we have faith and love? Paul says, “they spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven.”  Meaning on account of your hope or your expectation of your reward that waits in heaven, it inspires an even greater measure of faith and love in your daily life.

So, your Simple Truth for today: Faith. Love. Hope. Everything in your Christian walk is anchored in these 3 virtues. Your faith in Jesus Christ naturally leads you to love God and others. And your hope gives you the strength to remain committed to what you believe no matter what Satan or man tries to do to you.
