Hey, welcome to The Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.

In Philippians chapter three, Paul tells of his legalistic Jewish life before Christ where he strived to achieve right standing before God based on his obedience to the Jewish laws.

Before Paul knew Christ, it was all about what he could do. But after this transformation, he realizes it’s got nothing to do with him. He determined that his one purpose, his whole reason for living, was to know Christ. As Paul writes in Philippians chapter 3 verses 10 thru 11,

“I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, 11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!

The original Greek word Paul uses here for “know” as in “I want to know Christ” is SO much more than having an intellectual knowledge about God. Rather, it’s about having a deep, relational knowledge that only comes from a personal, intimate connection.

First, Paul says, he wants to know his resurrection power. That same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you | empowering you to overcome sin and temptation. Empowering you to be an overcomer in any area of your life. Empowering you with courage to pursue God’s calling on your life.

Second, Paul wanted to partner in his sufferings. Have you ever noticed that during your times of suffering and grief that you experience God on a deeper, sweeter, more intimate level?

Third, Paul wanted to share in his death. It’s possible that Paul was seeing his future execution and saw it as an honor to die for Christ.

And finally, Paul says he wants to experience the resurrection from the dead. Most scholars believe Paul is referencing the rapture of the church in the end times.

So, your Simple Truth for today: Your One purpose is to progressively experience God on a deeper, more personal level. How will you activate this Truth in your life today?
